Hogwarts Legacy is a gem for which few expected a Czech localization almost immediately after its release. However, it has finally become a reality on PC. Its author, who, according to the main person of the site Pařanský raj Rudolf Pokorný, does not want to be named, describes its creation on the site as follows: “The Czech language he initially did mainly for himself, because he wants to act out stories with a lot of text and not guess what is happening there. He learned how to translate games in Unity using the XUnity Auto Translator plugin, but he can work with other engines as well.This time, to translate game texts taken from the game, he used the excellent DeepL translator, which is a powerful tool that has been under development for a long time, and, as you can see, artificial intelligence can work real miracles.
Of course, don’t pay too much attention to the details as this is an unfinished version, but otherwise it’s really fun to generate a translation of all the texts in a few days. However, according to Rudolf Pokorny, not everyone is happy with the creation of the Czech Republic for the Hogwarts Legacy. According to what he presented, comments are circulating on the Internet warning against downloading, as downloading files should break saved positions. Pokorny blames the lokalizace.net team for spreading these and other negative messages he presents about the Czech language, which he claims even sends him negative emails.
The Lokalizace.net team, who created their own version of the proposal, commented on the situation around the Czech language for Hogwarts Legacy on their Facebook profile as follows:I’m sure you’ve heard that we’re somehow blocking some kind of localization done through a translator for the Hogwarts Legacy game, and that we’re lying about everything we can, trying to slander someone and stuff like that. But the opposite is true, and one unnamed “Youtuber” publicly lies about us, about the Czech localization teams in general, and smears our name for no reason.This team asks the community to ignore the information spread by Mr. Pokorny.
However, he admits that he was parana paradise warned: “Yes, he’s been warned that what he’s doing could jeopardize any future localization, and we’re going to stand up for that. This applies not only to us in general, but also to all normal, future translators. If someone claims otherwise, then this is a lie, they are deliberately lying and trying to harm us.“
Some call one of the main problems the fact that the author did not receive permission for his work from the developers. However, as noted by veteran translator Marek Tvrdy, responsible for the Czech language for Dragon Age: Inquisition, for example, most games are translated without permission. It is suggested that another factor is the quality of the texts themselves, which may jeopardize future translations. In general, the situation with the translation of Hogwarts Legacy is rather ambiguous, as evidenced by the video attached below from the game streamer Agrael. However, it’s safe to say that Machine Czech could be the future of game translations that usually take years, while this one was done in a very short period of time.
