We are already testing the PlayStation VR2 headset

The new generation of the PlayStation 5 virtual reality headset and controllers will hit stores in a week and a half, but as is common with Sony and the PlayStation brand, journalists were again available early enough to prepare a review before the official release. release. The headset has also already arrived at our office, and although we cannot yet describe anything related to its launch and game play, today we can at least briefly share the first impression of unpacking the iron.

The first impression, even before unpacking the headset, was the surprise of how light the whole package with the device is. Partly, perhaps due to how bulky the PlayStation 5 console itself is (and the performance PSVR2 promises), I was quite surprised to find that the box with the headset and VR controllers “weighs practically nothing” (according to official data, the weight of the headset is 560 grams, which is very similar to the weight of the first generation PSVR). Of course, this makes a lot of sense, given that you will literally be wearing the headset for hours, and if it wasn’t made of lightweight plastic, it could be quite uncomfortable during extended play.

You get five pieces of the headset out of the box: the headset itself (with a wired cable to connect to the console), left + right PS VR2 tactile controllers, one cable to charge the controller (the other you theoretically received along with the console itself, to charge the original DualSense controller), and a cable/ribbon with “plugs” for headphones. These headphones fit easily into the prepared slots on the helmet, however the instructions mention that you can also combine the helmet with other/your headphones. As you can see from the attached photos, the helmet and controllers are made in the same black and white design as the console itself.

Gone is the relatively difficult conundrum of connecting cables and last generation PS VR2 hardware, the helmet has a fixed single cable that you plug directly into the console. The controllers need to be paired once by connecting the charging cable (just like a regular DualSense controller), but then they work wirelessly. By the way, in the package they come already (at least partially) charged. Putting the helmet on your head is very easy, one big button opens the back strap lock and the other one opens the helmet front lock, so when you put on the helmet with two hands, you can easily press those big buttons in the front and back to unlock these two locks, and after the helmet is comfortable, slide it together front and back to fit you. Subsequently, you can still tighten/check the overall strength of the rear strap using the easily accessible swivel wheel. However, today we cannot yet share with you our impressions after turning on the TV. However, you will soon receive detailed reviews of the helmet, controllers and launcher games from us soon.

The PlayStation VR2 will arrive in Czech stores on Wednesday, February 22, with pre-orders already started.
