Nintendo raises prices for Direct exclusives

Nintendo had a big day. The company boasted of sales yesterday when Switch surpassed PlayStation 4 and Game Boy. It thus became the third best-selling console of all time. The firm also announced that it is increasing the base pay of its employees in Japan by 10%. This is probably due to the attraction of new talent.

Today we have a new Nintendo Direct. In a roughly 40-minute presentation, we can expect more information about the games that will be released on the Nintendo Switch in the first half of this year. The broadcast will begin at 23:00 our time.

A few hours after the announcement of the Nintendo Direct, the price was updated. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in the online store. The anticipated game was priced at $69.99 on the U.S. Nintendo Digital Store and $89.99 in Canada. It’s about $10 increase compared to other Nintendo Switch games that typically cost $59.99.

The price was later removed from the online store. However, even the largest stores (GameStop, Best Buy and Amazon) have reacted to the situation, which they stopped accepting pre-orders. This is not just a new Zelda, but Also ABOUT Metroid Prime 4.

From the looks of it, Switch fans should brace themselves for Nintendo jacking up the prices of their games, as Sony, Microsoft, Take-Two Interactive, Electronic Arts, or Ubisoft have done.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom release date is set for 05/12/2023, so it’s expected to appear on today’s Direct. Metroid Prime 4 will likely be shown as well.
