It often happens in the gaming industry that former employees who left the company before the game was completed, or people in lower positions, are left out. Some people have been trying to fix this system for a long time.

Apparently even those who previously worked with Striking Distance CEO Glen Schofield at his previous studio, Sledgehammer Games, on Call of Duty. Some of them had to create a new team with Schofield. So this is not a contractor with a small piece of work for a few months, but a full-time employee who has been working on significant parts of the product for more than a year.

“It definitely hurts,” says one of the uncredited sources. Others point to inconsistency in the way loans are distributed. Some former employees were included in the credits as “other” assistants in their departments, others were listed as “Miscellaneous” at the very end of nearly twenty minutes of credits, and others were left out entirely. One source says so people chose the same headlines based on attractiveness. If true, it would be extremely unfair and unfair to the entire team.

The International Game Developers Association wants standardize the way developers are given credit for their work and to encourage the dissemination of tools that can make it easier to update end credits if they are missing or otherwise inaccurate. Among other things, the association proposes to list all team members who have worked in the company for at least 30 days, including contractors. In addition, the association wants to keep the names of people who left the company before the release of the game.

But that’s not the only thing going on at Striking Distance Studios. Others in interviews with GamesIndustry point to the chaos that reigned during the development of The Callisto Protocol. Everything was supposed to be prompted by the rapid recruitment of new employees during the coronavirus epidemic. In three months, during the pandemic, the size of the team has roughly doubled. At the same time, the new people did not really know what to do. Because of this, some had to work 10-hour days in meetings with individual departments of the team and then work overtime to get their work done. Management was criticized for this approach and forced to promise fixes. But this did not happen, instead the employees were praised for their long hours of work.

Bad culture in the studio is also noticed by others. Especially those who have left. Others were often unaware that the person in question had left another department.. They say they found out in a week or a month. So there were no farewell letters. They are quite common in other studies. According to some, departures were quietso that the morale of the team does not deteriorate. Others see the behavior of the management circle as vengeful.

However, former employees of Striking Distance Studios spoke to GamesIndustry. they fondly remember their time in the company. They weren’t supposed to have major disagreements, and were even more surprised that they weren’t in the end credits.
