NetEase disbands team behind Blizzard games in China

In November, we reported that the company Blizzard and NetEase did not agree to renew the license to publish the games of the American developer in China. According to South China Morning Post (SCMP) sources, NetEase is currently laying off the Shanghai team that published popular Blizzard brands.

As early as last year, after the announcement of disagreements between the two sides most of the more than a hundred employees had to leave the team. Several technical staff had to be transferred to other teams, and about ten people were involved in services that NetEase still provides for Blizzard games, such as customer support. The rest were fired, and even the remaining employees will not last more than six months in their positions.

From the actions of NetEase it is clear that this is already no current negotiations with Blizzard. While Blizzard is in contact with other Chinese publishers, according to SCMP, it will not enter into agreements with anyone until Jan. 23, when its contract with NetEase expires.

This means – in mainland China – the end of online gaming services. World of Warcraft, home, Overwatch 2, Diablo III, Starcraft and Starcraft II, Warcraft III: Reforged and heroes of the storm The next day.
