Be careful what kind of toy you buy for kids. Some of them can be lethal, like the M3GAN doll. James Wan and Blumhouse Studios, leading horror film makers, have made a horror film about the doll’s more modern sister Annabelle and the legendary Chucky.
The M3GAN doll is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a perfectly programmed machine that can become a child’s best friend and, more importantly, the perfect ally for their parents. Designed by Gemma (Allison Williams), a brilliant technician who designs a doll for a leading toy company. When her sister and her husband are killed in a car accident, Gemma’s life enters her eight-year-old niece Cady (Violet McGraw), who survived the accident with only a few scratches. With Gemma hopelessly unable to deal with children and an injured Cady in need of some outlet and especially friends, she becomes the perfect tester for the M3GAN prototype. This decision will have far-reaching consequences. At first, everything goes very well – the girl quickly recovers in the company of her new “friend”, and for Gemma, knowing that there is a being who will look after, advise and train Gemma is the perfect solution. Unfortunately, prototypes are characterized by the fact that, as a rule, they are technically imperfect and something can go wrong with them. Especially in the case of M3GAN, who is ready to do anything to fulfill his key mission, that is, to protect Cady. It’s like walking on corpses.
“To put it simply, M3GAN is like the horror movie Annabelle combined with the Terminator.” says director James Wan, adding: “I’m fascinated by things that look completely harmless and peaceful, but just … go awry.” What else can you expect from a horror maker famous for making very scary movies about crazy dolls and possessed nuns.
