Insider Gaming magazine, citing its own sources, claims that upcoming update 7.0 for the PlayStation 5 console will bring two important news. First of all, players will get an enhanced feature that will allow them to play current PS5 games from the cloud. Individual games that support this feature do not need to be downloaded directly to the console. Instead, they will be able to run and stream directly from the cloud.
This feature is currently only available on select older titles from the PS1, PS2 and PS3 eras and is one of the highlights of the most expensive version of the PlayStation Plus subscription dubbed Premium. Subscribers of this version of the subscription could, therefore, with the advent of the mentioned update from the cloud play current titles as well. However, it is questionable how large a group of games actually supports playing from the cloud.
If the mentioned information is confirmed, it will become clear that Sony reacted with this move to the competition of Microsoft, which offers cloud gaming for most games in its Xbox Game Pass subscription. Further behind this we can see efforts to make the PlayStation Plus Premium service more attractivewhich, with the exception of retro games, offers little at the moment compared to the cheaper subscription versions.
The second new feature of the upcoming update is expected to be full integration with discord. Future support for Discord was promised by Sony themselves some time ago, so it’s only a matter of time before this popular communications platform arrives on the PS5.
Insider Gaming magazine even mentions a specific release date for Update 7.0, which should have been scheduled for March 8. Coincidentally, today players were pleased with the release of update 6.50, which adds support for the new DualSense Edge controller.
