Workplace conditions at Activision Blizzard aren’t exactly ideal, which is why individual studios are unionizing in an attempt to prevent various problematic situations and improve the climate for employees in the first place. Now, according to Bloomberg, the Irvine-based California studio that has been working on the MMORPG World of Warcraft in recent months is about to join the Communications Workers of America union. After Raven Software, this is another part of the company that wants unions. More than a hundred participants of the studio “Proletariat”, which became part of the company relatively recently, are people representing a variety of areas. An Activision Blizzard spokesperson says they will soon respond to the group of 57 employees’ demands, commenting: “We have received the petition and will provide an official public response to the National Labor Relations Board in the coming days.“
Proletariat software engineer Dustin Yost commented on the situation as follows:When we learned earlier this year that Blizzard was planning to take over the Proletariat, we started discussing how we can protect the great culture we have created here. By forming a union and securing a contract, we can ensure that we can continue to do our best and create innovative products at the forefront of game development.Activision Blizzard isn’t the only place where unionization is taking place. They are also organized, for example, by people from ZeniMax, who are now under the control of Microsoft.
A group of employees from Activision Blizzard’s video game department in Boston said they were organizing a union https://t.co/jermY4mjXY.
