This year’s The Game Awards officially unveiled gameplay footage and the release date for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the sequel to Respawn’s successful action-adventure game subtitled Fallen Order released in 2019. the trailer has finally been shown, but now game director Stig Asmussen discussed them in more detail in an interview with Game Informer magazine.
As one of the biggest changes, Asmussen mentions the combat system, where we have to expect 5 different combat stances that we can switch between. In addition to the classic lightsaber, Cal Kestis, now five years older and a true Jedi Knight, will also be able to use the twin lightsaber or so-called cross lightsaber that Kylo Ren has in the new movie trilogy. And that’s not all, Cal is also getting his hands on firearms for the first time, namely iconic blasters that he can use with his lightsaber.
Another big new addition is the mercenary Bode Akuna, who will likely be Cal’s main partner for most of the game. “He and Cal have a special bond. Almost as if they were brothers.” Asmussen says. Bode not only plays a role in the story, but also helps Cal in research and battles.
Speaking of research, we can also expect some changes here. The first one already had significant elements of metroidvania, according to the game director, here it will be even more familiar. Cal will get a wider range of equipment, such as the grappling hook, which is popular in games, and he will sometimes have to combine several abilities and tools together to get further. And as we already know from the trailer, Cal will also be able to ride or even fly animals.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will release on March 17, 2023 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
