The story will take you through some exploration and death. approximately seven hours. I feel really sad about this because I have a lot of questions left at the end. On the other hand, it should have been that simple. It’s this feeling of ignorance when you tell yourself “What the hell was that?”, the authors of the game wanted to leave you. I don’t really feel like describing the story in detail because of spoilers, so I’ll try to give you at least a hint of the plot.

You will be in the role Jesswho suffers from PTSD after her sister drowned as a child. So he intends to chase away his sullenness on a kind of cleansing weekend. stay on the mysterious islandwhere he meets his friend Kim. Together they join four other members sects of prismatic sciencewho worship the power of healing crystals. Well, as it usually happens, the evening ritual goes awry and instead of the sun in the soul, the gates to another dimension open.

Your task will be to gradually save the melancholy members of the sect – the game also features another dimension called Darkness. You will fight not only with your nightmares, but also with very strange creatures. During a yearflycatchers, flying carnivorous flowers and undead cultists you will reach the crystals that will allow you to go to other parts of the island. Here I am a little sad that at least The Chant semi-open world the game (i.e. a game that offers an open world, but to a limited extent) doesn’t give you much reason to explore the island. Of course, you can turn at the fork on the way to the lighthouse and get additional resources. But you can easily get by with what you collect normally. And what is the point of actually collecting raw materials? Survive!

THE HOLY TRINITY. BODY, MIND AND SPIRIT!

The whole gameplay depends on three main aspects. Body, mind and spirit. Enemies take your health – that is, your body – with their attacks. You can protect yourself with weapons, but you need composure to fight. During combat, it decreases, and your character’s fear of the dark doesn’t help much either. Special attacks require a healthy mind. All three “abilities” can be replenished with the help of herbs that you collect while wandering around the island, as well as intelligence and meditation. You can then upgrade them in the skill tree.. And since we’re talking about fights and I also bit the gun, let’s see what v song actually fighting.

Those expecting knives, submachine guns, grenades and more will be disappointed. There are only three weapons here, and these are some kind of torches.. In particular, the sage, the witch and the fire. Each one is effective against different types of monsters, and perhaps the fire one is stronger on the outside. Darkness. However, if you’re still craving a blast, there’s an option to make one. secondary projectilessuch as essential oil, fire oil and salt. So, although the combat system has a good idea, its implementation is not very good. It’s all about hitting, dodging, hitting, dodging, sometimes oily, and then hitting and dodging again. It all seems clumsy and, I confess, rather lifeless. Which is a major problem for a game that has combat as one of its core elements.

BAD GRAPHICS RUINS A GREAT EXPERIENCE

So, we have a great idea and a brilliantly written script, which, unfortunately, is hampered by a bad combat system. The graphics don’t add to the bad luck. I’m not saying she’s just bad. It’s actually a good thing that The Chant was made by a studio of about twenty people. But a good remedy for three. Animations such as the characters’ wavy hair feel believable. Even though the developers set the game in a dark and gloomy world, they also work well with colors.

The oppressive feeling of being on a mysterious island full of demons lost in my own mind rose up in me. But permanent FPS drops and cut scenes cut out of nowhere, slightly spoils the overall impression. On the contrary, I would rate the sounds in The Chant as excellent. Starting with dubbing the main character Siobhan Williams, which you may know as the voice of Laura from Career. From goosebump-inducing effects to a soundtrack that perfectly highlights your character’s psychological state.

So, as I said at the beginning. The game in me after it’s over (so sorry after one of the three ends) left mixed feelings. She captivated me, and at times I felt completely immersed in the main character. Jess. The plot and great screenplay also literally consume me. Unfortunately, even the perfect sound cannot save the bad combat system and imperfect graphics. However, I allow myself The Chant recommend seven points out of ten.

Fans of dark thrillers who are able to ignore some flaws due to the plot are guaranteed to enjoy it. Personally, it reminded me a little of the combination silent Hill and Evil within.
