First Trial – A Plague Tale: Requiem
The second test is the control
In the third installment of our special edition where we test a LYNX gaming PC with a Ryzen 5 5600 processor, GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card, 16GB DDR4 RAM and a 1TB NVMe SSD, we take a look at a slightly different game than we do. verified so far. From adventure action games we move on to a flight simulator, we are talking, of course, about the 2020 Microsoft Flight Simulator game from Asobo Studio, by the way, the same team as behind the title A Plague Tale: Requiem, which we tested in the first part. Even after more than two years since its release, it is still one of the most challenging games ever made thanks to its almost photorealistic graphics that you can enjoy while flying around the world, famous cities, airports or natural phenomena. So we started testing again in FullHD, 1440p and 4K resolutions, especially in the Australian city of Sydney. However, it must be said that performance really depends on where you are at the moment, and therefore the numbers may differ significantly for you.
The game is really demanding, but even using the Ultra settings, the computer produced 66 average FPS, and the lower values were still around 46 frames per second, which is not bad at all. In particular, Flight Simulator is perfectly playable even at lower frame rates. But if you still need a higher frame rate, there’s a High-End or Medium setting where you can even reach an average of 130 fps. However, the game is very CPU intensive, as can be seen from the stagnant 1% of the minimum when moving from High-End to Medium, as well as DLSS, which I tested but did not include in the graph. With the Ultra settings and DLSS, I got exactly the same numbers as without this technology, so at this lower resolution it really doesn’t make sense.
At 1440p, you can still expect a very satisfying experience even on Ultra settings, even though the average frame rate has dropped below the magical 60fps. This is where DLSS finally helps with its quality mode when you get up to 64fps on average, i.e. the same value as in 1080p resolution. If you want to go even further, it’s worth trying a lower quality setting. On Medium, the game is already hitting the 100 FPS limit.
In 4K, the frame rate is noticeably lower, and here the limitation is primarily the video card. At ultra settings, you can expect an average of just 33 FPS, but it’s very stable, with the lowest values being around 30 fps. DLSS has a very solid effect here, even in Quality mode you get an average of 47fps and in Performance mode even 56fps, which is more than what you get by lowering the settings. As a result, it’s best to combine lower quality settings with DLSS, and you can expect good quality even in 4K.
Considering how demanding the game is, the LYNX gaming PC performed very well in the test. In all resolutions, you can look forward to a very pleasant experience and enjoy the beautiful visual side of this unique simulator.
You can expect the next gaming test next week.
