However, apparently CD Projekt RED is no longer paying for rework as it used to be, so during the Gwent World Masters tournament it was announced that during 2023 Gwent will see the latest new cards. In total, 72 cards will be released in three batches, among which will be Dagon, whom we met in the first game. Witchers from 2007 and whose return after being removed from the game a few years ago has long been demanded by fans. It goes without saying that there are balance-adjusting updates, and there will also be a final competitive season or two tournaments and associated qualifiers throughout the year. On the contrary, it seems that we will not see the new Journey. (similar to the Battle Pass), although the existing ones will still be fully accessible.
But in 2024, CD Projekt RED intends to fully transfer Gwent to the community. He will continue to deal with technical support himself, but at the same time wants to introduce a system thanks to which players themselves will be able to make decisions about changing the balance of cards. It’s hard to expect us to be able to come up with new mechanics, but at the very least, it should be possible to vote on changing the power of cards or the cost of adding them to a deck.
The studio also wants to change the progression system to give players a reason to keep coming back to Gwent. So CD Projekt RED’s recently revealed plans aren’t exactly the end game, but clearly Gwent will suffer the same fate as many other card games in the coming years.. So it will still work, but only in a state of general support from developers who will stop releasing any obviously new content over time.

Considering that over the years Gwent has given many of us tens and hundreds of hours of fun, this is certainly a shame, but we have a feeling that few active players could really expect this condition to happen sooner rather than later. Therefore, we can only hope that the Witcher card game ends its career with honor and that the community takes care of it in the future. I hope it turns out that CD Projekt RED’s approach of trying to entrust the future of the project to the players themselves is the best thing that could happen in the current state.
