The main idea of the game is to build a mythical item and score enough points to win the battle with other players’ valuables. From the very beginning, you have five piles of stones on the table in front of you, behind which you have the opportunity to take two stones of the same type or three shamrocks of different options on your turn. However, this may not be what you do during your turn. You have four options in total. Collecting 2 or 3 gems is two of them, the next ones are related to booking a character card, directly recruiting and unloading one of the heroes.
The range of options within a single round is relatively limited, making the pace of the game very fast once you understand all aspects. However, the fact that the spectrum is not the most diverse does not harm the whole. On the contrary, it can be said that it benefits him because it is easy to understand how the individual aspects work and, above all, after a while you can build a decent strategy related to the offer of characters that the game makes available to you. And I must say that the assortment of heroes is not at all poor, it can be jokingly described as very rich.
Build an all-star team
Here you select champions known from films and comics from three rows at once, which are determined by the color to which the card data belongs. The heroes in Splendor Marvel are loaded into these three lanes of shuffled decks, so you never know who’s going to be in front of you in the next few moments. The top blue column consists mainly of legendary figures who determine the fate of the universe. Medium orange suggests middle class, while the final green works with characters you’ve probably never heard of, unless you’re an avid comic book fan.
However, in order not to boil water here, I will give a few examples. In the green line, you can find, for example, Squirrel Girl, America Chavez or the supervillain Gorgon. Orange level will offer you Nebula, Red Skull or Collector. The final blue lane features Black Widow, Doctor Octopus, or Vision. There are really a lot of characters, so almost every player who enters the game will find his favorite in the final.
The more you have, the more you buy
You don’t choose heroes for your group based on how good they look or what abilities they have in the Marvel Universe. Three factors come into play. The first step is occupied by the value. Some go into battle with zero, while others can be found with from one to five points, which will be added to you after they are earned. The second aspect of the choice is the symbol of the Infinity Stones, which is associated with this character and subsequently represents a passive element for your further actions, since it can be used when purchasing subsequent characters, and above all, it is necessary for the successful completion of the game.
The Infinity Gauntlet and a number of other points-giving places require a total of six stones, one of which (green) you can only get from certain characters, so without them you simply won’t be able to reach the goal. In addition, a certain percentage of them in Splendor Marvel belong to the Avengers, for which the owner of three or more figures from this group is awarded the title of Avengers Uniter. This card moves between players depending on who has more cards with the A symbol. However, there are permanent bonuses tied to the colors of the cards that no one can take away from you once you get them.
The last aspect that shapes the choice is undoubtedly the price at which the cards can be purchased from Splendor Marvel. Each piece has a more or less well-defined cost in stones that you will have to pay for at the beginning. While some characters are relatively accessible right from the start for that matter, others are just commodities that take a long time to acquire. And you still have to play with a lot of players, since the number of stones and therefore the initial wiggle room is determined by how many people are in the game.
Luckily, the Infinity Stones, which are your main currency at least at the start of the Splendor Marvel campaign, can be replenished with the gray Avengers Tokens you get by reserving heroes. They can replace most stones. The problem is that you can only reserve three characters, so you definitely can’t bet everything on reserving individual cards, because this tactic might not pay off badly, at least when you’re rushing into a duel and planning your next moves poorly.
Splendor Marvel represents a bet on the right card
The Splendor Marvel card game is a worthy choice for both fans of card games and those new to the genre. In addition to excellent gameplay, it is also attractive because you will have the opportunity to look into a universe full of heroes who do not conflict, but work together to achieve a common goal.
For Marvel fans looking for an interesting card game with this theme, Splendor Marvel is the obvious choice as it will offer them an interesting format in which they can spend dozens of hours of quality entertainment. This is a bit of a problem for owners of the original Splendor, who should only pick up the game if they’re paying homage to the comics, otherwise it won’t offer them much.
