It’s been eight long years since we first got to play an interactive story-driven adventure game from the goofy and grotesque world of Borderlands. Tales from the Borderlands is hosted by experts from control games was very popular with fans of both the studio and the series. Despite the somewhat infamous cliffhanger, the ground seemed to have completely collapsed after the new work. And so it was until this year when the announcement was made New Tales from the Borderlands. However, this time the reins of development were taken over by the studio responsible for the series itself. Gearbox Software. And the most important question, of course, is clear from the very beginning: did it work? And the answer after a few hours of playing, unfortunately, too …
I’m not going to walk over hot porridge unnecessarily. New Tales from the Borderlands is built on really solid foundations, many of which you can recognize from the first part, which is very disappointing, because in the case of the last one, they simply support a product that is not quite sufficient. Where is this story of an interactive adventure – I repeat: STORY. INTERACTIVE. ADVENTURE – fail the most, they story, interaction and the actual adventure.
So, to put this into context; in the game we will follow the plot three for a series of brand new characters. Doctors Anuradha Dharher brother Octavia and his employers Fran Miskovich. Each has its own ambitions, history and character, which distinguish them from each other and at the same time complement each other well. At the same time, the main premise of the story revolves around Thedior’s invasion of the planet Prometheus. And since we can’t let that happen, each of the main characters wants to get rid of the problem in their own way, but ends up kicking Principal Tediore’s ass and kicking them off the planet.
The problem is in, that history comes to this in a very strange way. Halfway through you feel this premise in fact, even the writers themselves forgot and trying to quickly catch up on the last two episodes; most of the time, you’ll find yourself thinking that not only could they come up with a lot more interesting plots, but that they could do a lot more with the one they chose. Because with every passing hour you will realize that the ending is not really about Tediore and the invasion. It’s not even glue like I say in love but cheap cardboardwhich combines not plot points, but simply scenes reminiscent of a traditional sitcom, which serve primarily for entertainment and nothing more.
This is most obvious in the second and third episodes of the game – out of only five, by the way – when each character gets into very strange situations that actually have little to do with the main plot. Because how being on a TV show and going to the mortuary to pick up a corpse fits into fighting an invasion, I seriously don’t know.
The fact that, somewhat traditionally, your decisions only affect the story. minimal impact, and most importantly, there is actually only one binary at the very end, I’m already somehow used to it. Otherwise, most of the time you will be watching mostly cutscenes with with a minimum of any real game playand it sometimes seems a bit annoying. There is really very little intelligence, and some things or mechanics you will use unnecessarily little.
