GTA Online RPG servers have long been considered wild places where a lot of things happen. According to the Gamesindustry server, Rockstar Games has decided to clearly define the rules that will apply to them on PC. One of the novelties is a ban on the sale of loot boxes for real money or in-game currency. Similarly, the company has taken a negative stance towards any activity related to cryptocurrencies and often associated NFTs. To put it simply, the developers do not want players to generate income from their servers through the mentioned elements.
Another aspect that will be subject to stricter controls is the misuse of Rockstar’s intellectual property and trademarks or the importation of other companies’ intellectual property into the game world. This restriction will affect both characters and real brands, as well as music. Creating new projects, storylines, missions or even entire maps for GTA Online should also be out of the game.
Rockstar comments on the latest moves to limit GTA Online RPG servers as follows:Take-Two reserves the right to object to any third party project or to revise, withdraw or cancel this statement at any time in its sole discretion. This statement does not constitute a waiver of any rights Take-Two may have with respect to Third Party Projects.“
The move is not entirely exceptional. Rockstar is just one of many companies that have decided to take active action against NFTs. The second part of the report is quite interesting in regards to content creation, which can significantly limit community building or generally reduce creators’ efforts to create new works. It will be clear to them that Rockstar can come in at any moment and just cancel it.
