Game Access Connect ’22 Experiences

Getting to know players through monitors, voice channels, and video games is great, but every now and then it’s even better to go straight to a place where you can chat with such players, the so-called offline. And not just with any players. From non-professionals and therefore casual players to industry professionals; Game Access Connect ’22 provided Brno and the rest of the Czech Republic with the opportunity to meet a wide variety of players, which is not only fresh but great. These are our impressions of this year’s gaming event.

Access to the game 22 is a gaming event that took place during the weekend of October 22-23, 2022 at the premises of the Brno Exhibition Center. For two whole days, visitors could take part in a variety of activities prepared by exhibitors and organizers from the GameDev Area: from expert lectures to demonstrations of new indie and school projects and interesting master classes.

The first day of the event was devoted mainly to experts from practice. He appeared on the stage in the foreground of the exhibition center, for example John Greenwho inspired the audience with his story about the game of Cars and tried to chart their path to success. Lukas KolekDirector of the Charles Games studio, for a change, introduced the audience to the true essence of the study from Charles University, and the day ended Lada Brabtsova with my lecture Producer and other swear wordsin which almost all the seats in the hall were occupied. Although the lectures were not as extensive as, for example, at Game Access in May, their length and focus were fully consistent with the nature of the event. And so they were instructive and interested in almost everyone who flickered around them and did not overwhelm him with professional jargon.

On the contrary, the second day was devoted especially school affairs and was supposed to tell the visitors, for example, how training in the field of game development takes place in the South Moravian Region, and the Lektvar competition was also presented. Throughout the event, visitors could also see the names created by the students themselves among the indie showcases.

Especially indie showcase was one of the main attractions of the event itself. The site brought together dozens of startups and fully playable projects that visitors could try and see under the hood of game development, as well as communicate with the developers themselves, ask burning questions and, most importantly, give them valuable feedback.

Among these games, there was no shortage of published adventures. Katy in Meowmevolandwho came to introduce new players, in detail Simulator Simulatorwhich especially pleased fans of public transport, also remembered again FixFox and in the largest space to date, this has also been shown Matcha, which pleased the players with its arcade mode. The gaming stand was full of gamers, not only adults, but also children who were brought to the exhibition by their parents. Thus, we witnessed the moments when parents started talking to developers who tried to offer them a different perspective on games, which means that games should not spoil a person, but entertain him.

Last but not least, the event offered workshops, which were few in number, but they offered those interested in a detailed introduction to the gaming industry, which the participants could also touch, without any additional investment.

Access to Connect ’22 game brought to the Czech market something that was lacking here for the time being. So that gaming event focused not on AAA games from all over the world, but mainly on the indie scenewhich he tries to bring closer to the unprofessional viewer and at the same time Offers many informative lectures and master classes.

We really enjoyed both days, not only did we have the opportunity to talk to the developers of individual games, but also to see how they themselves work with a community of people who want to try their game. And these are the moments for which it is sometimes worth turning off monitors, computers and consoles and go offline to play in the real world.
