In an open letter two years ago, Marty Stratton said that composer Mick Gordon was largely to blame for how the final form of the DOOM Eternal soundtrack turned out. It claimed that a well-known songwriter did not get in touch, asked for delays, and generally created difficulties, which ultimately led to the quality of the soundtrack not being delivered to the world as originally promised. More than one fan was disappointed with Gordon’s approach and, as he himself claims, he was professionally influenced by this case for a long time, which led him to create a reaction through which he wants to show the world his point of view, which is very different from that of Stratton presented to us in the past.
According to Gordon, he did everything possible to make the soundtrack for DOOM Eternal happen, and Marty simply lied in many ways in his open letter. According to the information provided by the author himself, he was not paid for more than half of the soundtrack. Moreover, he himself did not approve of his appearance and tried to actively explain this fact to Stratton, who was supposed to ignore him. Subsequently, the legendary composer was forced to contact directly Bethesda, with which he tried to resolve the situation. However, their joint communication and efforts, unfortunately, did not materialize in the end due to the fact that prim played in the development of id Software.
Basically, he did whatever he wanted, which ultimately led Marty to decide to cut Gordon out of the development process and create his own alternate version of the composer’s creation. According to information provided by Gordon himself, he didn’t even get a chance to listen to the DOOM Eternal soundtrack before its release. The release of the soundtrack was problematic and certainly not on a positive note. According to Gordon, Marty wanted to create a joint statement and sought to address the overall situation, but it was never implemented.
Instead, an open letter was released to the world in which Stratton badmouthed Gordon and seriously damaged the reputation of a gifted composer who naively expected a non-confrontational solution to the whole problem. To keep quiet, id Software offered Gordon a six-figure sum to cover the damage caused by what happened after the release of DOOM Eternal. But for Mick, according to him, truth and honesty were more important. He waited a long time to see if Stratton himself would come forward and tell the truth about how things really happened. However, he never lived to see this, so the composer decided to follow this open path and two years later revealed to the world his version of the truth.
His doctrine is truly vast and all-encompassing. And we basically bring here the most interesting things first. However, if you wish, you can find its detailed form here. However, if this is a reality, then this is a very grim example of how game development can evolve and how relatively easy it is to ruin people’s lives. When comparing the two versions, it can be seen that the information presented by Gordon about the development of the soundtrack for DOOM Eternal, having probably consulted with his lawyer, is not so far from reality. Of course, it will be very interesting how and whether Stratton will comment on the whole situation that got into her with his attitude and, at least in the opinion of the famous artist, an attempt to evade responsibility.
Marty Stratton, @idSoftware Studio director, lied about @ROCK OST Eternal events in a Reddit post that used misinformation to completely blame me for its failure
He later offered me six figures to never talk about it.
The truth is more important. https://t.co/zSNo2QG1mI
