Secretlab Chair Skin Review: A Transmog For Your Gaming Chair

The Secretlab Chair Skin cover is a balm for that lingering temptation that has plagued many owners of the 2022 Titan Evo series every time the company announces a cool new design. Now instead of going through the crazy act of tossing out your current beautiful seat in favor of one with an image from your favorite game on it, you can now transfigure it with the same zipper design, which is basically a perfect fit.

For the past few days, I’ve been resting my back and buttocks on the padding of the Secretlab chair, and the two body parts are almost indistinguishable with or without the cover. The quality materials used here are what you’d expect from the best gaming chair, but there are still some areas that I think could be improved.

Unboxing the Secretlab chair cover, I’m glad to see that the packaging used to store the accessory is sufficiently protected. It may seem like a minor thing at first, but having a safe place to store these things when not in use is definitely welcome. It would be nice if the pouches of each piece of leather could be resealed and sealed properly, but the existing plastic is good enough.

Secretlab includes a set of easy to understand instructions with diagrams for each step. The seat base and backrest take the shape of the 2022 Titan Evo series without difficulty, but you’ll still want to pinch and tuck the fabric for a better fit.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to apply liners to any of the Secretlab 2020 series chairs. I tried it on my previous model and while the back fit perfectly, the seat did not. This isn’t an incidental snub, but it could further bolster the argument that the Secretlab Titan 2022 gaming chair upgrade is worth the money.

The only problem (and I use the term loosely) you may encounter when fitting the Secretlab skin is getting it to fit through the gap between the back and seat. Even when the seat is tilted forward as far as it will go, the clips and leather tabs can take a while to come out. However, once that’s done, it’s pretty easy to archive everything.

From the front, it’s hard to tell if your Secretlab gaming chair design is factory or leather because it fits so well. There are a few telltale signs if you know what to look for, including the lack of two-tone cloth on the fenders, but that doesn’t detract from the impressive effect.

The same cannot be said looking from the side or from behind. The cutouts for the lumbar support adjustment knobs are a bit long, meaning the original seat design is down. Meanwhile, avoiding partial exposure at the back, where two small gaps are easy to see through zippers on the skin, simply won’t work.

Although these blemishes are not the deal breaker, I would prefer not to see any part of my stool after applying the peel. While it’s true that Secretlab has done a good job of presenting things, every little thing matters when it comes to how much this accessory costs.

Finally, your existing magnetic memory foam cushion may also give the game away. In my case, the Soda Purple color scheme used for the Secretlab logo doesn’t necessarily match the Mint Green skin I applied. You can buy separate head and lumbar pillows to tie everything together, but that drives up the overall price even more and ends up wasting accessories.

If you take a moment to relax, the skin does not negatively affect the comfort level or the lumbar support system. In fact, I think adding an accessory really helps make the 2022 Titan Evo even more comfortable, especially by making the seat less stiff.

You may feel an air pocket in the middle of your back, but it will go away as soon as you put weight on it. Dive into the extra layer of Secretlab SoftWeave Plus material, it’s not that hard and it’s still as good as ever.

One of the main benefits of the Secretlab play skin that I find interesting as a pet owner is that it is machine washable. Before the advent of this plugin, you almost had to buy the company’s “premium fabric cleaner,” but with the advent of this plugin, that need has more or less been eliminated.

I haven’t loaded the leather in the washing machine yet, but I have little reason to think it won’t survive the wash cycle. However, you’ll most likely keep them separate from other items and Secretlab says they’re not suitable for dryers.

Overall, I am very impressed with the leather on the Secretlab chair. You won’t find anything like it on the market and I certainly can’t wait for new models to hit the company store. However, it will take me a bit to persuade myself to do so, as they are not cheap.

To transform your gaming chair, you need to part with at least $169 / £169 / €199. While that’s significantly cheaper than buying a new Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 at just a third of the cost, I highly doubt most people build a collection quickly.
