“One of the questions that was often asked after the announcement of Bayonetta 3 was natural: why did it take so long?” journalist Imran Khan reports in the first part of his newsletter. And he answers the question. The reason, although not the only one, was also the fact that a semi-open world was created for the game.
Khan compares the planned concept with Astral Chain instead of Nier Automata. The developers conceived a world that would be a kind of hub, from which the player will move to other different worlds. They also had to be fairly open. PlatinumGames experimented a lot with this idea, but it was assumed that this would negatively affect the pace of the game. Nintendo itself is said to have stepped in with misgivings about the outcome, while the Switch hardware didn’t have much understanding of open locations.
However, relics of the original design remained in the final version of the third Bayonetta. The central node was split into smaller parts, the original direction was also reflected in the design of the chests, their contents or weapons.
“More epic and wild than ever before, Bayonetta has outdone herself by delivering the biggest adventure yet, benefiting from even more focus on battling giant monsters, among other things.” we wrote about the title in the review.
