AMD introduced Radeon RX 7000 graphics cards

RDNA 3 has finally been unveiled. The long-awaited architecture and models themselves were unveiled on Thursday evening at the Together we advance_gaming event. We have many details and we will discuss the most important ones in this article.

The first thing we talked about was the architecture itself. RDNA 3 is the first generation of graphics cards using chiplet technology, which AMD has been using for processors for several years now. So you can find it on the card 1 graphics chip (GCD) built on 5nm process from TSMC to 6 memory chips (MKD) created using cheaper 6nm technology. In addition, in the map we find a new display engine and a media engine that supports i encoding using AV1 (the previous generation only allowed decoding). It is also found in computing devices. Enhanced AI Accelerators and Gen 2 RT Accelerators.

AMD has paid a lot of attention to the monitor port, which is brand new. Display Port 2.1, while Nvidia’s competitor “only” uses DP 1.4. The new standard allows gaming in 4K up to 480 fps and in 8K up to 165 fpsof course, if your monitor also offers a connector.

AMD is also pleased with the new graphics 54% higher performance per watt compared to RDNA 2 a net performance up to 61 TFLOPabout 18% higher frequency as well as 2.7 times faster than Infinity Cache.

And now to the models themselves. In total, two were announced, the highest of which Radeon RH 7900 HTX. Will offer 96 computing units, 24GB GDDR6 VRAM as well as gaming frequency 2.3 GHzall by TDP 355 W. AMD promises approx. 50% better performance in RT compared to the previous generation and up to 70% with classic rasterization. However, there were not many benchmarks, and we did not even see a comparison with the RTX 4090. However, the biggest surprise was the price, which is set at $999which is $600 less than the competition from Nvidia.

Then the second card Radeon RH 7900 HTwhich offers 84 computing units, 20GB GDDR6 VRAM and the frequency of the game exactly 2 GHz. The expense must be 300 W. The price here is not much lower than on its more powerful counterpart, it is set at $899. Either way, it’s a hundred dollar drop over the previous generation.

Both video cards will go on sale December 13th this year.

So much for the hardware, but there was much more presented at the conference. AMD announced collaboration with Ubisoft on internal Snowdrop engine, whose new iteration should take full advantage of the new technologies AMD has to offer. They also appear, for example, in The Protocol of Callisto and The Forsaken.

The next big announcement was FidelityFX Ultra High Definition 3. A new version of the popular upscaling technology, available for different graphics cards. According to AMD, FSR 3 should bring to twice the frame rate of FSR 2, including using the new Fluid Motion Frame technology. We don’t know exactly what it is yet, but there is speculation that it could be Nvidia’s alternative to Frame Generation. FSR 3 will be released sometime next year.

The latest new technology has been HYPER-RXwhich should be a simple function, increase framerate and reduce latency with one click. Basically, it’s a combination of earlier features from AMD, but improved. HYPER-RX will appear sometime in the first half of 2023..
