Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has good news and bad news. hug group in August of this year, she completed the acquisition of the western studios of Square Enix, and the developers under the new owner, of course, are not all right.
Embracer Group management made a decision close the Square Enix Montreal studio. Puzzle creators Hitman Go, Lara Croft Go, Deus Ex Go and Hitman Sniper recently changed their name to Onoma. This information was confirmed today by CDE Entertainment, Embracer’s 12th operating group, which includes teams formerly owned by Square Enix.
In Embracer, they see an opportunity to grow around their top AAA franchises and titles.. Mobile games do not fit into this plan, and CDE will focus its future production capacity on flagship studios like Crystal Dynamics and Eidos-Montréal.
According to Schreier, it could be cost reduction measures. In Eidos-Montreal, according to unofficial data, there should have been abandonment of one project (it is said to have been inspired by the hit “Stranger Things”). Another title, due to be renamed, has reportedly reduced its range and the new Deus Ex is in the very, very early stages of development.
As it turned out, so Eidos-Montréal has yet to collaborate with Microsoft on several upcoming titles for Xbox Game Studios.. It is assumed that one of them will be Fable, which appeared in the Playground Games. Not surprisingly, Crystal Dynamics is helping Microsoft’s The Initiative with Perfect Dark. In addition, Crystal Dynamics is preparing a new Tomb Raider adventure with Lara Croft.
Embracer Group acquired Square Enix Montréal, Eidos-Montréal and Crystal Dynamics studios for $300 million in early 2022. The acquisition included approximately 1,100 developers across three studios and rights to established brands including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, and Legacy of Cain.
Embracer Group is gradually expanding. For example, he bought Gearbox, Perfect World, 3D Realms, Dark Horse Comics, Aspyr, 4A Games, Flying Wild Hog, Snapshot Games, Silent Games, Coffee Stain North, IUGO Mobile, Purple Lamp Studios, Mad Head Games, 34BigThings, Nimble. Giant Entertainment, Zen Studios and A Thinking Ape Entertainment. He also owns the Czech studio Warhorse Studios.
