Overwatch 2 introduces rape game modes

Overwatch 2 is off to a fast start with over 25 million people testing it. Since it’s more or less a purebred successor to the first Overwatch, it has some of the elements that could be found in the original game. In addition to the lack of aim assist, we can also find custom game modes in it. Most of them are undoubtedly harmless, but some of them can be found among them. In it, one of the players is given the hero Cassidy (McCree), who only opposes female heroes. The game instructs the chosen player to kneel and then crouch on their victims, resulting in the word “rape” appearing at the top of the screen. After this performance, the heroines are marked as pregnant, and then the bot Torbjorn appears with them, which is supposed to imitate a child. Of course, some members of the Overwatch 2 community do not like this disgusting creation and are actively fighting it.

Blizzard herself commented on the situation to the PC Gamer server as follows: “Inappropriate or explicit content has absolutely no place in our game. As soon as we became aware of the existence of this mode, we immediately removed it. We are constantly working to improve automatic filters that prevent inappropriate user-generated content and manually remove anything that the system doesn’t catch.” Apparently, thanks to a unique five-digit code, it is still available. Therefore, anyone can include it again in public games.

This situation shows the relatively limited capabilities of Blizzard. He can actually disable modes based on their name in the first place, while their content can remain hidden from him. Some say the company needs to be tougher on this, because in the case of Overwatch 2 it’s a free-to-play game that anyone can play, and it’s an element that could have a very negative impact on some younger players.
