In Far: Change Tides you explore the world in a ship, submarine and hot air balloon at the same time – INDIAN

With an ever-growing indie game scene emerging more and more art gameswhich only run for a few hours, nothing much happens, and yet they tell interesting, engaging stories that you’ll think about for a while after you’ve finished. That’s exactly the game it’s trying to be. Far away: changing tides. But that’s also her problem – she’s trying. Or maybe too much.

The developers of Far: Change Tides are no longer newbies in this area. In 2018, they managed to release Far: Lone Sails with great success. So this new game is more or less indirect continuation. Although it retains the style of Lone Sails, the story goes – or rather, floats – in its own way and it is not necessary to play the previous part. Again, this is a side scrolling game.. But don’t confuse with Marie, you’ll swim mostly to the right, navigate with WASD or lever and integrate with objects, but that’s where the similarities end. And where are you really going as a little doll? Well, just somewhere. You don’t know where, you can try to take it out of the context of the world, you can try to believe, but the game won’t tell you anything at the end. Which is also a bit charming for this five o’clock joke. You will often swim, admire the beautiful cartoon environment and just run around your ship and take care of it.

Which brings us to the main content of the game. Taking care of your ship. As part of your journey, you will improve, repair and maintain it with simple steps so that you can sail on at all. You control everything very easily. You approach the object with your character and press the interaction button or move it aside, or you can jump on it, for example, blow air into the stove with the help of fur. Everything is really very simple. Maybe too much. I often got a little bored on the long sections of the swim because I had nothing to do and could see the surrounding landscape as much as possible.

However, this does not mean that there is nothing to do on the ship. It is necessary to correctly orient the sails depending on where the wind is blowing. If it does not blow, then automatic oars must be added to the stove. The mast must be lowered when you swim under the bridge, otherwise it will blow away beautifully and it will be necessary to repair it. Sometimes you have to close your ship and dive under the surface with it.where you will again face new challenges. So the gameplay is interesting, but often too simple and gradually becomes rather monotonous. Especially when you spend most of your time on your ship.

You leave it almost only a few times per game when you hit a big obstacle. And here comes the most fun part of the game – puzzles. Basically nothing complicated. Usually you have to push the box somewhere, charge the generator, and so on. These parts of the game don’t put too much strain on your brain, but it’s a nice distraction from the constant round-the-world travel. Although the puzzles are hard to balance, I still got stuck on them a few times. Mainly because interacting with objects is not always intuitive. More than once I ran back and forth for several minutes only to find that I could pull a lever or move something. Puzzle solving was often well balanced, but I got stuck on not quite intuitive environment design. However, I wouldn’t say it’s a problem. Only the developers could have definitely worked on this and spared me these few frustrating moments.
