On the night of Thursday to Friday, the Resident Evil Showcase took place, where we saw new footage from the expected remake of the fourth part. However, immediately after the end, the first preview and interviews with the developers were released, from which we learned a lot of additional information. The most important of them were summed up by insider Dusk Golem in his giant a thread on Twitter, and we will discuss them in this article.
The game is being developed directly by Capcom (as opposed to the trio remake), with Kazunori Kadoj and Jasuhiro Anpo leading the development, who also worked on the remake of the second part. In general, RE2R developers should make up the majority of the team.
But now let’s move on to the gameplay. The basis is the same as in the original, but we will find a number of changes here. Leon can use his knife much more often (which this time breaks gradually like in Remake 2), for example to kill stunned enemies or even block attacks if you can time it right. You can also use a knife for stealth. Yes, the game does have stealth and you can kill enemies stealthily from behind. We don’t yet know how much of a role stealth will play.
From the original, the inventory divided into squares was preserved, but in the remake, more complex crafting was added to it. In addition to combining herbs, you can also produce ammo. Of course, there will also be a mysterious merchant with his legendary messages. You can buy weapons, ammunition, upgrades and much more from him. In exchange for gems, you will receive special items.
On the other hand, what you will not find in the game are quick events. That is, we can still find them here in the form of pressing a button when the enemy catches you, but all QTEs in cutscenes and other unpleasant places have disappeared.
And now to history, where perhaps the biggest changes have taken place. The journalists, who had the opportunity to play the approximately 20-minute demo version, talk about the new introductory video, in which we can see flashbacks of the events in Raccoon City. In addition, the soldier Jack Krauser appears here, playing a rather important role in the original towards the end of the game. However, in the remake, he allegedly coached Leon, while Kennedy became a government agent not entirely voluntarily and does not want to accept the mission to rescue the president’s daughter.
The whole game is much darker and more terrible, which we can already see in the very introduction. For the most part, it will also be a slightly more serious affair than the original, but there will also be classic catchphrases like “Bingo” and more. In a word, the developers tried to create a mix that, according to first impressions, works great.
The characters have also undergone a transformation. For example, the scientist Luis Sera looks much different and probably won’t be as positive as he was in the original game.
Ramon Salazar has undergone a really drastic visual change and looks even older than before, although he should officially be only 20 years old. Although the president’s daughter Ashley looks similar, she no longer seems so annoying and childish. At the same time, it should be given more space.
The monster design remains the same, but the remake will offer a lot more gore, Leon doesn’t mess with enemies, and some kills can be pretty brutal. By the way, a mysterious character appeared in the trailer, resembling an enemy type that was intended for the original RE4, but in the end did not make it into the game. This is one of many examples of using content from the so-called RE3.5.
Thanks for reminding me of them! I’m convinced that the new monster we see in the RE:4 trailer is a discarded idea for female fanatics from the original RE4 (to see if they fulfill a different playable role they were originally intended to). https://t.co/NMzyZVrt06

Although there will be some story changes in the game, the duration should remain about the same, at least according to the developers themselves. We should expect around 14 to 16 hours, which will be the longest Resident Evil on the RE Engine.
The remake may also include the Separate Paths DLC, in which you play as Agent Ada Wong. The writers may have inadvertently revealed this in an interview where they talked about Ada’s role in the “main game”, implying that she would likely appear somewhere else.
Ada Wong has also become the subject of numerous discussions, because this time she is voiced not by Jolene Andersen, as was the case in the remake of the second part, but by Lily Gao, who played the heroine in the movie “Welcome to Raccoon City”. .
Finally, I will add a video from the ElAnalystaDeBits channel, where you can see a detailed comparison of the remake and the original.
Resident Evil 4 Remake will release on March 24, 2023 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
