A frighteningly beautiful experience that will amaze you – INDIAN

After long delays, we have finally seen the full release of the long-awaited first-person horror game Scorn, which is backed by the Serbian studio Ebb Software. At the end, I can only say one thing. I was sick in the stomach, my nerves were in a bucket, and I still don’t know what the hell I was doing, but I fucking loved it.

The hero, who, I dare not say, may be human, wakes up in the bowels of a building that is part of an unknown planet somewhere in the depths of space. How did he get there? And what is its purpose? You won’t find an answer to any of these questions for about six hours of playtime. Contempt has no history. Well, at least not in the classical sense of the word. There is not a single line of dialogue, no notes, no records that you would find hidden somewhere in the corners of alien ruins, which are gradually eaten away by the ravages of time. The cutscenes are also cryptic and reveal little about the local world. But is it necessarily bad? Certainly not in the case of Scorn, since this work needs to be viewed through a diametrically different lens compared to other games not only from the horror genre. Contempt is a very philosophical name, giving almost infinite scope for individual interpretation. The developers leave you clues about the local civilization and events that could have happened on the planet, but it’s up to you how you interpret these clues. And I can guarantee you will be asking a lot of questions long after you see the end credits.

When creating the game Scorn, Ebb Software was inspired not only by the work of Zdzislaw Beksiński, whose style was heavily influenced by the Polish horror film The Medium, but above all by the work of H. R. Giger. The aesthetic of the artist behind the design of the Alien universe is reflected in almost everything here, and you will often get the uneasy feeling that a black drooling monster crouched somewhere on the ceiling will jump on your back. The world here is full of blood, subconscious sexuality (which is typical for Giger) and bizarre ideas. Maybe for some it will be too strong coffee, but that’s what attracted me the most in the game. I was happy to discover what else the developers have prepared for the players, and I went through Scorn almost in one breath, because it never ceases to amaze. Few games can have such a strong impact on the player’s curiosity, which constantly pushes him forward.
