“What started out as a side idea to support the upcoming 7th Era quickly turned into a fully featured and fun update, and we had a lot of fun testing it.” the developer explains how today’s update was born.

“The idea was simple – to create some kind of twist, some kind of cargo that is treated differently from all other resources in the game. Therefore, I came up with the “waste” produced by each highest level building (skyscraper) and as the only raw material that causes a negative effect on its surroundings by its presence at the bus stop. You need to get rid of waste. Once your station starts to fill up, the formulas for those tallest buildings in the area will also start to turn off (they will stop generating passengers).”

Getting rid of garbage is not easy, but it is possible:

– Pick up from the city center and unload to landfills (station extension). To do this, you will use new types of wagons and vehicles designed for this.

– Expand the coal-fired power plant with the ability to burn waste and produce electricity from it (but the coal-fired power plant produces more pollution, so be careful).

– You can invest in a recycling building and either gradually get rid of some of the waste, or expand it with an incinerator and also produce some electricity here. This new special building will be used a lot more after Epoch 7, so leave some space around it.

– You can, for example, expand your station with containers for sorted waste and slightly reduce the negative impact on the environment.

To track and better understand where garbage negatively affects your cities, the developer not only added a new color to the display of parts of the city, but also visually affected the appearance and cleanliness of spaces, roads and buildings. Also, once a building loses its ability to generate new occupants, it will darken and appear abandoned. So you can easy to identify the problem and start thinking about how you can make your cities clean and bright again. If desired, both types of visual cues can be disabled in the settings.

Garbage will appear in the game since 6 era, so for those who haven’t gotten that far yet, the update also brings a lot of improvements and fixes. You can find everything clearly in the blog post on Steam.

Honza concludes by saying that after spending part of the summer in a forest cabin with his family, he is once again fully immersed in engineering. “We’re finalizing some aircraft models and mechanics, age 7 is also moving forward (some industries like the monorail are already fully functional), the Steam Workshop has over 400 absolutely amazing extensions and the community is growing… Thank you so much for being a part of everything this :)” he added.
