Dead Space: If that’s how you remember the original, maybe it’s time for a refresher…

It’s great to be back today as publishers are slowly realizing that removing any complexity from video games is starting to backfire. The best thing about this Dead Space Remake is its being a 2008 gameDesigned and built with a flat design, not afraid of scaring users too much, dissatisfied with real action or very detailed puzzles or two crossed corridors. Note: complex does not necessarily mean difficult.

Dead Space had its own difficulty levels, but even if you chose the easiest mode, the game never treated you like an idiot, remaining satisfying and in its own way. yummy roundabout. Like this remake, the original Dead Space prefers to think that if you’ve started, you’re also willing to play with it, not picking up the pad because you’re bored or have thirty minutes to throw away. . But if you increase this difficulty level…

Dead Space can turn into a real nightmare. The game’s enemies are necromorphs, abnormal creatures living by mutilating the bodies of the dead and reinventing their forms, as in John Carpenter’s unforgettable The Thing. of the necromorphs there is one everywhere, whereas Isaac Clarke is only one, and he is a warrior, not a soldier, not even a policeman; they don’t even have proper weapons, in fact this poor devil doesn’t even have one and has to use mainly miner’s gear. But for a cook it would have been far worse: Isaac’s tools were originally designed to carve rocks and gems, and got along quite well even with the skinned bones of necromorphs, which we could snipe through until they were no longer a threat.

In this remake, the developers took some of the direction. an artificial intelligence that will adjust the intensity of what we encounter on the road It radically changes the atmosphere of the game in real time, for example by acting on lights, sound and combat, and changing the type and number of necromorphs that will wait for us along the way.

welcome to Ishimura

This takes place mainly inside the station Ishimurais now completely at the mercy of this disastrous alien infection. The pipes of the structure hiss, the lights come and go, many of the vital systems are broken and will need to be reactivated throughout history.

work done by EA Motif commendable: details have increased dramatically, but the character of the setting has not changed. It’s like the game has always been like this, but that’s definitely not the case, and a quick review is all it takes to understand.

In the remake, Ishimura a continuous, no-load environment, the whole adventure will progress in a single series of shots. To make the game better, at least hopefully, new rooms, new passages, new secrets have been added and information has multiplied with new documents and an enhanced environmental narrative. There will also be new dialogues and Isaac Clarke will return to the conversation, as he did in the second and third episodes of Dead Space. New weapons were introduced, and as was already said in the first wave of information, necromorphs now consist of several layers of flesh, muscle and bone that will realistically and gradually displace under our blows.

Is he faithful to the end?

The Dead Space remake also introduces new rooms, new weapons, and new secrets.

Dead Space Remake now seems to keep its faith with the promise of making a classic game up-to-date without breaking it. The graphic aspect of this rebuild has unparalleled strength, but despite being rebuilt with a new engine, they remain the same. slightly dated items, like some NPCs. As important as the polygons and textures here, the sound has all the credentials to increase the volume of immersion and, above all, the fear beyond the emergency threshold.

Starting from a quality game like Dead Space certainly helped the developers of this remake, but the work done should not be underestimated. What we need to understand, and that we can only do this with the full game, is whether more subtle changes, especially those related to difficulty balance, will be able to preserve the game.the essence of the original game. It would truly be a disaster to restore Dead Space so technically, just to tame its challenge, the strategic depth of its distinctive battles.

DOCUMENTS

  • Will innovations improve or harm the original?
