In recent years, Activision Blizzard has had problems with sexual harassment in the workplace. At the moment, he is facing the hundredth lawsuit, the subject of which is precisely sexual harassment. The victim claims that several years after she took the job, she was harassed by her manager, who exhibited sexist behavior and various forms of harassment. According to the information they provided, she was even forced to have sex under the threat that, if she refused, her boss would release incriminating photographs that she had provided him with in the past. It is assumed that the biggest problem is the fact that the management of the company knew about the problem and did not significantly intervene, or rather did not solve it at all. In 2017, a complaint was even filed through another manager, but nothing happened and the rapist remained with the company until his dismissal in 2021.
On Friday, we filed another sexual harassment lawsuit against Activision Blizzard.
We currently represent 8 women who have filed sexual harassment claims against this company. If you or someone you know is a victim of the rampant fraternity boy culture, please contact me. https://t.co/utVJnmvTIv— Lisa Bloom (@LisaBloom) October 11, 2022
According to the defendant, the defendant Miguel Vega told her that he had friends in higher positions and that he could arrange for her to be fired at any time if she tried to denounce him. Eventually, however, she made up her mind and filed another of a series of complaints against Vega, which ultimately led to him being fired. Activision Blizzard commented on its actions, stating: “We take all employee concerns seriously. When the complainant reported her concerns to Human Resources, we immediately launched an investigation and Mr. Vega was fired within 10 days. We have no tolerance for such offences.” The lawsuit accuses a large corporation of not intervening earlier and taking certain measures against Vega already during 2017. According to the Daily Mail, the plaintiff in this case is represented by lawyer Lisa Bloom, who represents eight women who already have negative experiences with Activision Blizzard.
While this may seem like an isolated incident, Activision Blizzard has been treating its employees badly for a long time, according to various sources. In the past, he was even actively involved in deliberately refusing wage increases for workers demanding unions. However, the world is changing and the gaming giant is playing with it, as evidenced by the fact that it has entered into negotiations with the Communications Workers of America union, which is part of the Game Workers Alliance. The company’s shareholders even voted to create an annual status report on the company’s efforts to combat abuse, harassment and discrimination in the workplace. Therefore, it is possible that such cases will be reduced to an absolute minimum.
A reminder that all the “major investments” that have been made have been made as concessions to increasing pressure from employees to try to prevent unionization.
The quality of life of employees is improved through collective action. https://t.co/pnbjLDvaOg
