What is certain is that none of the subscription levels will not offer first-lot exclusivity from Sony on the day they are released. This is a significant difference from the new version of PS Plus Game Pass, whose subscribers can play all the games from Microsoft and its studios on the day of release.

PlayStation boss Jim Ryan in an interview with gamesindustry.biz explained why Sony did not include Game Pass in their subscriptions.

“We feel that we are in a good position with our studies, when investments bring success, which allows us to make further investments that bring further success. We love this cycle and we think our players love it too.” Ryan explains.

“By the way, we added ours to our subscription immediately after they were released, we have not been married in the past and do not plan to do this in the case of this new service. We believe that if we did this with the games we create at PlayStation Studios, the aforementioned virtuous circle would be broken. The level of investment we have to put into our studios will no longer be possible and we think it will affect the quality of the games we create. And that’s not what the players care about.”

It should be noted that Sony’s stance in this regard is not unique among game publishers. Take Two or Nintendo, for example, are equally cold-hearted when it comes to signing up for Game Pass-style games. But Jim Ryan adds in the same breath that he the situation may change in the future due to various trends.

“Given that today the world is changing very quickly, nothing is eternal. Who could have said four years ago that you would see a select AAA PlayStation exclusivity on your PC? Last year we started with Horizon Zero Dawn, then Days Gone and now God of War. We’ve had a lot of success in terms of criticism and sales, and we’ve all come to terms with it. But looking back four years ago, I think no one expected such a move. So at this stage I don’t want to cut anything. The only thing I’m talking about today is the approach we’ll be taking in the short term.”

Ryan in an interview also commented on the subscription price. At first glance, it is interesting to compare the prices for monthly and annual subscriptions. For example, if you buy the most expensive PlayStation Plus Premium subscription for just one month, it will cost you 18 euros.

However, an annual access to an identical version of the subscription will cost you 120 euros, which means you pay only 10 euros per month. A more economical offer is not surprising for similar services in the long run. But with PlayStation Plus, the difference is really significant. Focus on the annual subscription option confirms the head of the PlayStation.

“It is a fact that, at least for our services, the vast majority of people sign up for services through a 12-month subscription. That’s more than two-thirds of those who subscribe to services in this way. This is a value proposition model that we have studied very carefully. We think that given what people get, our offer is great. But we simply wouldn’t have been able to play our studios’ games the day they were released.”

Finally, Ryan He also commented on the most expensive subscription option called PlayStation Plus Premium.which will also offer old games from the PS1, PS2 and PS3 eras. It will offer games from a third PlayStation via the cloud.

“Of course, not for everyone, that’s why it’s called Premium. But there are people like me who played these games and loved them twenty or more years ago. Or they are people whose parents write poems about these games and want to try them themselves. Once we can share this title offer with the world, we think there will be a lot of interest.” Jim Ryan says
