The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card was released today. This is the very first and also the oldest model of the new generation Lovelace, which the company introduced a few weeks ago. On Tuesday, the first reviews of the reference (Founders Edition) version of this graphics came out, and we can finally see real tests in games.
From the announcement, it was clear that the RTX 4090 would be extremely fast, and the reviews only confirmed this. According to Hardware Unboxed (13 games average), at 4K resolution it is 59% faster than the top RTX 3090 Ti and 71% faster than the competing RX 6950 XT. This is practically the first GPU that can be used for games in 4K resolution with high frame rates without any problems. Even at this resolution, some games have CPU issues, which is completely unprecedented.
The big advantage of the new generation is DLSS 3 technology, which provides image generation. In short, the AI takes two rendered frames and generates a “fake” one between them, essentially artificially increasing the frame rate. However, based on benchmarks, it performs very well and at best you can expect twice the frame rate of DLSS 2.0. However, the new technology takes its toll in the form of increased latency, and because of this, Nvidia Reflex is automatically enabled, the purpose of which is to reduce response.
Long before the release, there were rumors that the RTX 4090 would be very demanding on consumption, but in the end everything is not as terrible as we might expect. The new card requires almost the same amount of power as the RTX 3090 Ti despite being significantly more powerful.
Whether the RTX 4090 is the right GPU for you is up to you to decide. Its price is really high, starting from 48,499 CZK.
