The management of the CD Projekt RED studio announced at the beginning of the week during a conference with investors that the American studio The Molasses Flood, which was bought by a Polish creative group at the end of last year, is preparing its own single player. plot RPG The Witcher. But then we only found out that the project, the development of which is now at the pre-production stage, has the working title Sirius and what it should be about an innovative take on the world of The Witcherwhich will suit not only fans of stories about Geralt of Rivia, but also a new audience.

He later emphasized this fact Michal Nowakowski from CD Projekt RED, answering questions from investors. Novakovsky confirmed that Sirius is not a mobile game and that, on the contrary, it is an ambitious and significant undertaking. At the same time, the creators are targeting a wider demographic, that is, even those who could not complete the previous games in the Witcher series.. As an example, he cited people who may have seen the series but are not necessarily fans of dark, hardcore RPGs.

Following this statement, some foreign servers, including GamesRadar, began to bombard sensational headlines from the sidelines, claiming that CD Projekt RED is targeting fans of the Netflix series The Witcher with The Molasses Flood. But Nowakowski never said anything of the sort. only used Netflix users as an example of potential customers who may know the world of The Witcher from various media and who are interested in the brand itself, without being veterans of the game trilogy or other more demanding titles. Even for this audience, Sirius should fit.

So, at least for now, we don’t have to worry about it being a game adaptation or an offshoot of the Netflix series The Witcher. After all, the action takes place in its own world and the book saga. Andrzej Sapkowski mostly very loosely inspired, while CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher universe usually tries to build on Sapkowski’s books. Although there are already cases of cooperation between Netflix and CD Projekt REDfrom which the cosmetic items available in the card game “Gwent: The Witcher” appeared. From the point of view of the plot, the witcher universes of both companies are completely incompatible.. Therefore, it makes no sense for a Polish studio to abandon its world, which it has been building since 2007, only to focus on the series, in which, for example, some characters enjoying good health in the game series, long after death.

And as for the next Witcher game trilogy, which is being developed directly at CD Projekt RED, better get ready to wait at least a few years for the first part of the trilogy with the working title Polaris. studio manager Adam Kichinski answering questions from investors, he explained that developers must first properly prepare technologies, since Polaris is the studio’s first game to use Unreal Engine 5. from Epic Games. The engine first needs to be properly adapted to develop story-driven titles with giant open worlds, and something like that requires additional work. So it’s reasonable to expect that Polaris won’t be released until three years from now.

On the other hand, all this work should ensure that the development of the second and third parts of the upcoming trilogy goes a little better.. It is expected that developers will be able to use tools and procedures to create them, which will already be fully ready, tested and proven after the completion of the Polaris project. It is likely from this expectation that the recently announced plan to release the second and third parts of the new Witcher trilogy within six years after the conclusion of Polaris follows.
