League of Legends Blitzcrank may soon terrorize the top lane

League of Legends Blitzcrank can be an absolute threat as a support, they have a long range poke and momentum that if it landed could kill just about anyone. Riot made some changes to the PBE MOBA that would give Great Steam Golem more dueling power and a faster cleanup, meaning they could be played fairly easily in top lane or even jungle.

Blitzcrank Changes

Basic statistics

  • Base Attack Speed: 0.625 > 0.65
  • Attack Speed Ratio: 0.625 > 0.7

Overdrive (W)

  • Attack Speed: 30-62% > 40-92%
  • Mana Cost: 75 > 85
  • [NEW] During this time, attacks deal 1% of the target’s maximum health as magic damage on impact. There is no maximum damage limit. Also deals bonus damage to structures.

Power Fist (E)

  • Mana Cost: 25 > 40
  • AP Scaling: +25% AP
  • [NEW] Now deals +150% total attack damage and +125% bonus attack damage as physical to non-champions, including buildings.

Static Field (R)

  • Max stacks: 3 > unlimited
  • Passive Damage AP Scaling: 30% > 30/40/50%

Barrages with maximum health damage on his vehicles, a shield as a passive, and unlimited stacks on his ultimates make dueling a daunting prospect. Throw in two types of CC, ranged and knocked down, and it could mean shield-reliant champions like Sett could struggle. The only saving grace for those facing Blitz is that their mana pool is so low that even one ability rotation can cause them to fold.

Developer Riot commented in a Reddit post about these changes: “I’m here to warn everyone. Captain Gameplay had us do a lot of testing. This will give a lot of players LP (one way or another).”

It’s unclear now how effective these changes have been, and even then whether they’ll make it to the live game, but it’s certainly an interesting prospect, at least in the sense that I never want to object. It is always.

As for the changes that were released recently, we have the League of Legends 12.18 patch notes: Udyr and Maokai updated their recent mid-ups and seem to be in a decent position. Lots of new skins are also being released, like the Fright Night League of Legends skins, so take some time to check how much you’ve already spent on League of Legends. You don’t want to rob a bank just to be scary, you know?
