Resident Evil Village was originally supposed to offer DLC for Chris Redfield.

We recently wrote about new information regarding the Shadows of Rose story DLC for Resident Evil Village, which we learned thanks to IGN magazine. But as it turns out, Capcom’s developers were even more outspoken in interviews with Japanese media. Of course, there is a certain language barrier, but well-known insider Dusk Golem picked up the most important of the recent interviews and shared them in English on his Twitter.

What’s definitely interesting is that a completely new team is working on the expansion, most of the developers of the base game are not involved in the project, they are probably already helping with the remake of the fourth part. The person in charge is Kento Kinoshita, who was already the lead planner for the Dragon’s Dogma RPG and director of the Dark Arisen expansion. He joined the development of the Village only at the end, so he should bring something new to the game. Kinoshita loves gothic horror and dark fantasy, which he wanted to bring to DLC.

As we already know, the story takes place 16 years after the events of The Village and we will be playing as Ethan’s daughter Rose. In an interview with the developers, it was revealed that in childhood she lost not only her father, but also her mother, who was “taken” from Rose by Chris Redfield and his Wolf Hounds, who took over her upbringing. Although the daughter of the protagonist Village has grown up to be an ordinary girl, solving ordinary problems, she also has to deal with her supernatural abilities, which she will one day put an end to forever.

In an entity known as the Megamycete, Rose looks over locations from the original game, but they don’t look the way we remember them. In addition, the action of the DLC takes place not only in the castle, which we could see in the preview, other places are waiting for us. Thus, the extension is divided into chapters. Either way, the main villain should actually be “The Duke”. It is not by chance that I put quotation marks here, because this is not the Duke we know from the Village. This is a different “version” made from a substance called mold.

Finally, it’s worth noting that Shadows of Rose isn’t the only village story DLC that Capcom is working on. According to the interview, there was also going to be an expansion starring Chris Redfield, who would feel pressure and guilt and gradually go crazy. However, in the end, Shadows of Rose impressed the developers so much that they paid more attention to it and had to cancel the DLC with Chris.

Resident Evil Village: Winter’s Expansion launches October 28 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. On December 2, it will appear in the cloud version for Nintendo Switch.
