Harley Quinn in Gotham Knights Isn’t a “Manic Imp” From Batman Comics

Harley Quinn in Gotham Knights is a far cry from the manic yet lovable character we’ve fallen in love with over the years, and Warner Bros. Montreal has explained why they chose this version of Harley for the RPG. .

While people were excited to see what Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin would do in WB Montreal’s upcoming Batman-inspired saga Gotham Knights, villains are what people are. Indeed I want to take a good look.

And who better to expose a gallery of scams than Harley Quinn, a former psychiatrist turned maniacal accomplice to the Joker. Unfortunately, the announcement didn’t go as planned, leaving players unimpressed with Gotham Knights’ version of the self-proclaimed queen of crime.

Speaking to IGN about their vision for Harley, creative director Patrick Redding revealed that they wanted Gotham Knights to have a more subdued, mature version of the character that would fit the overall tone of the game.

While Harley Quinn from Gotham Knights exactly the same character Just like in the comics and movies, Redding is shown to be in a completely different phase of his rebellious cycle.

“She’s from the wrong place, ‘oh, I must be crazy. I’m your manic pixie. She doesn’t have to be a manic pixie anymore. She’s gotten to the point where she knows who she is. She has a very clear idea of who she is and will appear as a much stronger and more evolved supervillain”.

This iteration of the classic character comes after a whirlwind romance with the Joker, but doesn’t see Harley take on an anti-hero character from Suicide Squad or Birds of Prey.

“For us, we thought, ‘Well, this Harley idea has branched out in the direction of goodness, it’s been explored quite a bit in a lot of places.’ So we thought, ‘What if we drive it the other way?’ What if the absence of Batman and the rise of his successors makes Harley say, “Well, why don’t I finally make a supervillain career of my own? I have all kinds of ideas. I’m a brilliant psychiatrist. I can do all kinds of craziness, especially in Gotham City!

Concluding that the developers wanted the game model to exude “a confidence in what the character has that maybe she hasn’t had before,” I wouldn’t want to run into Harley at night in a dark, dingy alley (well, considering I I’ll make the game play, maybe I will).

Gotham Knights has already revolutionized the Batman game genre, well, minus Batman. Not only Gotham has changed, but so have its colorful characters, and that’s what makes Gotham Knights so exciting. It’s more subtle and hard, and that’s all I want to see.
