The Zelda-inspired action-adventure tunic could get a sequel

The Zelda-inspired adventure game Tunic is the brainchild of developer Andrew Shouldice. Rising to the top of the best games on Steam, the isometric puzzle adventure has gone down in history as one of the most popular games of 2022. As always, die-hard fans are clamoring for a sequel, so we asked Shouldice if we could reprise the role of fox turned adventurer in the future.

With the game scheduled for release on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch later this month, its popularity certainly makes a sequel viable enough – though literally only Shouldice is working on it, it could take a while.

“It’s right there in the name, ‘Twonic,'” laughs Shouldice. “We don’t have any expansion announcements or anything like that; As for what’s new, I’ll take a little break for a moment. I haven’t taken a vacation in seven years!

“I can relax a bit, but I can’t stop thinking about the secrets of the games.” Referring to playing the survival game Animal Well at the Gamescom booth as its muse, she comments, “[Animal Well] it’s a game about secrets and exploring a vast, unknowable world, and that got me excited.

“So I feel like at some point in the future, whether it’s Tunic 2 or something else entirely, I really want to get back to working on a game with secrets.”

Of course, it’s not a specific yes or no. However, given Shouldice’s enthusiasm for all puzzle games, we wouldn’t be surprised to see anything new. Whether or not this will happen in the Tunicverse is still a mystery, but I really think we’re going to experience some pretty cool stuff.

You can get Tunic on Steam (check out these reviews, keep going, you deserve it), as well as some of the games on our list of the best indie games if you’re looking for something new.
