Many of Valve’s classic games are the foundation of their genre, and Half-Life 2 is no exception among FPS games. The 2004 shooter is so popular that nearly two decades later it’s still getting new mods, and a recent Half-Life 2 mod nearly made it into horror games like Amnesia and Outlast.
Basically, the G-Stalker is a mod that pits you against the G-Man throughout Half-Life 2, meaning the elusive intergalactic businessman will continue to follow you at full speed throughout the game.
The mod, developed by anachronistic modder ALLOS, sees the G-Man appear behind walls and buildings as they open up into white voids. If he stays too close for too long, he will also log out of the game, adding to the mod’s mystique.
“When I did the original video for this concept, it turned out to be very similar to the premise of It Follows, because the way I implemented the original video, the G-Man could only walk,” ALLOS Anachronist told us. .
Right now it’s just a sampling of Half-Life 2 cards, because Anachronistic ALLOS isn’t sure he wants to turn the entire game into that G-Man nightmare. The mod can also be played on Garry’s Mod if you wish.
At the moment you can hunt the G-Man on two train station maps and one Ravenholm map and despite the small amount of content, the mod shows how effective mechanics like Resident Evil 2’s Mr X can be on this game. .
A demo of the mod is available on Steam and you can learn more about each of the available maps and even support anachronistic ALLOS if you want.
If you like the wackier Half-Life 2 mods, there’s one that challenges you to play the game backwards, and recently there was even a Half-Life 2 sequel mod on Steam. .
