FFXIV 7.0 story planning is now complete, director Naoki Yoshida and composer Masayoshi Soken speak in the Final Fantasy XIV radio show episode “From Eorzea with Love.” Following the release of the FFXIV 6.2 update and the new fan-favorite feature Island Sanctuary, Yoshida and Soken appeared on the multi-year show to discuss the future of one of the best MMORPGs out there.
In a chat with show host and FFXIV voice actor Yoshino Nanjō, the duo discussed some early details for the upcoming FFXIV expansion and some of the characters that should be featured more prominently. According to the show’s live blog (via Mkillerby), the story-defining task for the upcoming post-Endwalker expansion is now complete. Also, Yoshida says that key art for 7.0 has already been ordered.
For context, writer Natsuko Ishikawa, who served as lead story designer for both Shadowbringers and Endwalker, previously noted that the Endwalker residencies took place in the fall and winter of 2019, though some plot points were rewritten. ahead of the expansion’s release in November. 2021.
Yoshida, Soken, and Nanjō also discussed the upcoming role of Krile, the most famous character in FFXIV voiced by Nanjō. Yoshida said earlier this year that the team intends to focus more on Creel in future content and has now confirmed that he will play an active role in the upcoming 7.0 expansion.
Of course, given Nanjo’s presence in the interview, Krill was naturally the main focus, so we’re not sure where exactly that will take place in the full game. However, the team hints that Scion might finally get a new outfit in the next expansion; they also point out that Krile’s ponytail has always existed, even in his original hood design by artist Ayumi Namae. Yoshida also notes that while “From Eorzea with Love” is coming to an end after eight years, he hopes to do something special for the game’s 10th anniversary in 2023 and take on new challenges both in and out of the game.
