Valorant Reaver skins are some of the most loved skins in the entire shooter game. Riot Games’ tactical shooter has quickly become one of the most popular first person shooter on pctopping the charts since its release in 2020.
One of the most popular aspects of Valorant is the variety of weapon skins that Riot releases. There’s a line of flashy cosmetics like Glitchpop and Prime, but there’s one particular line of skins that players are going crazy for: Reaver.
In a recent developer blog Art Director Sean “Onirama” Marino and Producer Preeti Hanolkar discussed the origins of the Reaver skin line and how they needed to meet player demand to bring them back to the store. For starters, they noted, “Reaver was one of the first skins the team developed while we were still trying to figure out what skins should be in Valorant. It may seem obvious now, but back then we had no idea what we were capable of, what we could do given our strict game limits, and what our potential players expected from skins. .
All of this led to the creation of the first line of skin prototypes in Reaver, with his signature purple color and necromancer theme. The developers got a lot of player feedback on the first Reaver skin line, calling it a “ritual sacrifice” as the bumps in the road they encountered helped them fix issues with later skin lines.
The duo also shared how fan demand influenced the creation of Reaver 2.0, explaining, “All of a sudden, instead of getting messages from you guys asking us to ‘bring back the Reaver,’ we started getting requests for MORE REAVER SKINS, especially the Phantom. So the next step was clear.”
Finally, in August 2022, they brought back the skin line with Reaver 2.0. The couple explained how River Knife 2.0 the design was as follows: “We explored a lot of ideas, but we keep coming back to karambit. It’s understated, flashy and stealthy all at once, and that’s what we felt was really special and desirable. And this time, close combat will have options!”
