Cyberpunk finally got full-fledged modding tools

Patch 1.6 pro was released yesterday Cyberpunk 2077 he said more than enough. Just mention the wardrobe known as transmogrification, three new quests, a side quest, an anime-related jacket, and a shotgun. Cyberpunk: Edge Runnerssix more firearms, five melee weapons, a Roach Race mini-game that also available as a standalone mobile appBuzz the cat in photo mode or share your saved positions across platforms.

We should not forget about the changes that did not receive such a large media space, for example different colors of neon lights on motorcycles or a performance mode that finally allows Xbox Series S owners to play at 60fps. But there is another novelty that was released almost without warning, and at the same time capable of bringing great benefits to PC gamers – in fact, official modding tools.

Formally speaking Cyberpunk 2077 has officially supported modding since the game’s release in late 2020.. But then the developers only released very simple tools that allowed modders to upload metadata and access a list of game data and settings. In doing so, we received a promise that the tools will be gradually updated along with the game and expanded. As a result, we had to wait more than a year and a half to fulfill such a promise, but the main thing is that along with patch 1.6, a free DLC called REDmod was released. This add-on offers integrated support for installing and downloading Cyberpunk 2077 mods, as well as new modding tools to create, edit and enjoy your own Night City experience. Undoubtedly, we are talking about the result of a collaboration between CD Projekt RED and modders that we’ve heard about in the past.

REDmod allows you to modify or add sounds, animations or scripts and is available in two flavors. You can use it yourself with the command line, but it’s also available integration into VolvenKitopen source modding editor focused on modding not only Cyberpunk 2077 but also The Witcher 3. CD Projekt RED directly recommends integration with WolvenKit for maximum convenience and ease of use.

You can download the new modding tools as free DLC via GOG, Steam, or the Epic Games Launcher.. The good news is that mods that were created before the release of REDmod are still supported and while they are available in the archive directory of the game, they just do not appear in the REDmod menu. Through it, you can activate and deactivate any newly created mods, if they are placed in the right folder. The same can be done even at the GOG Galaxy client level.

Some players may also be pleased by the fact that CD Projekt RED does not appear to be attempting to set up their own workshop or any other way to share mods. So it’s still it is recommended to upload and download mods via NexusMods.com. You can find more information on the official REDmod website, so if you want to get started making new mods right away, you should visit here. The rest of us will just have to wait and see what talented modders come up with now that they finally have the right tools at their disposal.
