Valorant patch 5.04 finally added a customizable crosshair to Riot Games’ FPS game. The move was a welcome addition, as avid fans of the game have been asking for customizable crosshairs since the game launched over two years ago.
As with any major change to Valorant’s gameplay, its huge fanbase moved quickly to find the best crosshairs and codes to climb in ranked play. However, one fan decided to take it to the next level and do some statistical analysis to determine which crosshair color works best for each map.
Reddit user Useewhynot explained how they collected data from each map to determine the most optimal reticle color: “I logged into a dedicated game lobby to look at each map from any angle (except Split RIP) and wrote a python script to view this video and find the best reticle color for me.

During their research, they discovered that cyan and blue were very popular colors, favored on cards like Ascent, Bind, Breeze, Fracture, and Haven. The two shades of blue dominated almost every map, though they found that on Icebox and Pearl, yellow and red seemed more effective.
Useewhynot also shared plenty of details about how they loaded the data into Python for interested Valorant programmers. Useewhynot also encouraged fans of the game to do their own research and uploaded a Github repository with the manual and script they used.
While Act 2 Episode 5 is underway, Valorant players are still climbing the ranking ladder and trying to find the best crosshair colors and codes. Hopefully other Valorant players can take advantage of the initial Reddit user research and grow the project. Useewhynot concluded his investigation by noting, “At the end of the day, I can still miss this game, but it’s not because I’m a bad shot.”
