Ubisoft has confirmed that the upcoming Assassin’s Creed game is officially a spin-off of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla Mirage, formerly known as Assassin’s Creed: Rift, which focuses on the character of Basim in 1st Century Baghdad.
Following rumors that a new version of Assassin’s Creed 1 could be added as downloadable content for the next game in Ubisoft’s stealth RPG series, the developer of Rainbow Six: Siege and Far Cry has confirmed that Mirage will be the next Assassin’s Creed, with more information. It is scheduled to arrive on September 10 during a live developer event.
Ubisoft has only shared an official image of Mirage, but it shows Basim in a Middle Eastern setting, most likely in Baghdad, as various sources have previously speculated and leaked. The game is expected to be smaller in scope than the mainline Assassin’s Creed games, with a greater focus on stealth and fewer RPG elements. A recent leak suggested that this revamped structure could serve as the basis for a potential Assassin’s Creed 1 remake, as Ubisoft looks to return the series to its original stealth roots.
“Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the next Assassin’s Creed game,” the developer writes. “We look forward to telling you more on September 10 at Ubisoft Forward.” Assassin’s Creed Infinity is believed to be in development, which would be a long-term, constantly updated utility game, similar in style to Destiny 2 and GTA Online, with new content continually added over the years. The action of the first part of “Infinity” is rumored to take place in Japan.
