A new Splitgate game is in development, FPS game developer 1047 Games said in a blog post, but that means the current Splitgate won’t have anything new after next season and won’t be available on the Epic Games Store. Splitgate will leave Early Access on September 15 at the start of the new season, but 1047 won’t add any significant new features to the game. The plan is to keep their previous Splitgate goals and dreams for the new game, though the team will continue to maintain the Splitgate servers and update the in-game store.
As for what the new Splitgate game will be, 1047 remains silent, saying only that it will feature portals, be an FPS game based on Unreal Engine 5, and be free-to-play just like its predecessor.
“Splitgate has reached a level of success that we could not expect, and that few independent games have managed to reach,” reads the blog 1047. AAA that could rival the shooters of the largest publishers in the industry.
“But it also meant that because we had recruited the best talent from across the industry, we spent a lot of time trying to recycle old content and systems that were originally created by a handful of people.”
This, of course, is not a big surprise. Splitgate’s huge popularity took almost everyone by surprise, including 1047 themselves, and there was surprisingly little news about new updates to 1047 or major plans for the game.
