It’s Battlefield 2042 Season 2 Patch Notes Day, and the latest FPS game update packs a lot of changes. There’s all the new Season 2 content like the new Stranded map, new support specialist Charlie Crawford, and of course the new Battle Pass. However, this patch also brings some needed balance changes between Assault Rifles and SMGs.

Assault Rifles and SMGs have had the same headshot damage multiplier so far, set to double the base damage. With the Season 2 update, this changed, with the AR headshot multiplier increased to 2.15 and the SMG headshot multiplier reduced to 1.25.

EA/DICE say the changes reflect the role weapon types should play in combat. Players should feel rewarded for taking the time to accurately fire an assault rifle, but that’s not the main purpose of machine guns, which are designed to deal a lot of damage in close combat.

The changes will make it harder for K30 users to get long-range kills, and players using AR will now have an easier time killing them.

The Season 2 update also brings changes to Breakthrough and Rush modes. Now when you complete a round in any mode, the teams switch sides, so you’ll have the option to play the map both offensively and defensively before moving on to the next.

Our guide to the best weapons in Battlefield 2042 will help you prepare for the next round.
