World of Anterra is a pixelated indie skyrim that looks amazing

If you ever thought Skyrim’s pixel art was going to be amazing, you’re not alone, as an indie developer is getting paid for his new work-in-progress. World of Anterra is inspired by Bethesda’s ubiquitous RPG but done with pixel art. Developer 81monkeys recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for Anterra with the goal of raising $99,555 and it looks like the open-world game is already gaining popularity. Within days of the campaign, World of Anterra already has over 800 supporters and as of this writing they are halfway to their goal.

The team may have been inspired by Skyrim, but it looks like World Anterra will be more than just a pixelated Elder Scrolls game, judging by the Kickstarter trailer. 81monkeys creates a complex world of life for Anterra with NPCs that follow their own schedule and have lives that take place outside of your adventure, much like Nihon Falcom’s Trails series, but goes way beyond most RPGs thanks to its innovative dialogue system.

Dialogue in World of Anterra is organic, not linear. He can ask questions in any order, not discuss anything in particular, and even write his own questions to start entirely new conversation threads that can lead to playing word games or learning new information.

In addition to interacting with the locals and learning more about Anterra’s culture and traditions, you’ll take part in other activities. World of Anterra will have a strong crafting system, streamlined turn-based combat that has a lot to dig into while also being accessible to players who just want to finish fights quickly.

There’s also a scavenger hunt with hand-drawn maps, detective segments, and deep character side stories that unfold as you complete certain events around the world.

World of Anterra sounds ambitious, and 81monkeys admits that even under the best of circumstances, bringing something like this to life will likely take a long time. A release date for World of Anterra has yet to be announced, and the development team reminds fans that delays are always possible.
