Sony is preparing a new revision prefix 5which is lighter than the previous model. It should be on sale from September 15 this year in Japan, it is marked as CFI-1202 and will be available for both the standard PS5 with Blu-ray drive (CFI-1202A) and the Digital Edition (CFI-1202B).
Already in 2021, the weight of the console has been reduced by 300 grams thanks to a smaller cooler. The new model has lost more grams. In the case of a PS5 with a Blu-ray drive, this another 300 grams and digital version another 200 grams. As a result, the mechanical PS5 will weigh 600 grams less than the original November 2020 model.
It’s also interesting that a standard PS5 with 2022 mechanics will carry the same weight as the 2020 Digital Edition.
The weight reduction is thought to be due to better component placement within the console. But we still need to wait for the details.
PLAYSTATION 5 WEIGHT CHANGE:
