League of Legends’ definitive spell book hides a big secret

League of Legends’ Ultimate Spellbook could be a fun alternative to a normal Summoner’s Rift match; The premise of the MOBA for fun game mode is that instead of having two summoner spells, one is replaced with another champion’s ultimate. This can lead to some interesting synergies and ridiculous gameplay.

Riot has announced that the Spellbook will be expanded with the release of Steel Valkyries and this retirement will last until the end of September. There was also information at the bottom of the event breakdown page hinting at a hidden surprise in the Ultimate Spellbook game mode.

Every time an Ultimate Spellbook match is started, there is a 1% chance that that particular game will become an Ultimate Spellbook One-For-All (One-For-All-timate Spellbook?). This means that while everyone on the Rift will get a second ult, they will all be the same. There could be something like Akali’s Ultimate 10 as the game slowly turns into something reminiscent of the most chaotic anime ever.

But that is not all. Every time the “One for All” game mode is activated, there is a 50% chance that the most everyone will receive is Cho’gath’s Feast.

For the uninitiated, Cho’gath’s ultimate ability, Feast, is a “point and click” ability that allows Cho to bite his target. Acts as an execution if an enemy player’s health drops below a certain threshold, in which case Cho’gath will grow in size for the rest of the match. This can also be used on epic jungle mobs for the same effect.

Having runability for everyone on the Rift isn’t exactly appealing here, it’s absolute carnage that ensues if the game goes long enough with 10 players having multiple stacks in their Feast. Player models will be enormous.

Too bad this very specific game mode only starts part of the time, but it gives us all a reason to keep shutting down. For my part, I really need to see the 100ft Lux go hand in hand with the equally gigantic Timo.

For all the current happenings, be sure to check out the League of Legends 12.16 patch notes, after all, it’s always good to know the latest changes when it comes to staying ahead of the game. In other news, we are currently all obsessed with this cosplayer who is Rift (literally), his page is amazing and he posts new creations all the time.
