The Destiny 2 showcase revealed that a lot of good things are coming to Destiny 2 in February 2023 with the Lightfall expansion. From the highly anticipated in-game downloads to the full in-game LFG system, there are plenty of new quality of life features to get excited about. But one claim wavers more than others: the new Honor system.

Tyson Green, Creative Director of Destiny 2 Systems, explains the system during the presentation: “At some point, your journey as a Guardian will involve other Guardians and what they think of you. It’s a whole new dimension for you. Journey into Destiny »

Essentially, at the end of an activity, you’ll be greeted with a screen that lets you rate each player on your fireteam based on their behavior and how you felt during the activity. For example, one praise is sober and the other is knowable.

Currently, Commendations are split into four categories: Ally, Pleasure, Mastery, and Leadership, but what we’ve seen may contain temporary content. After all, Lightfall is still six months away.

However, Praise received a mixed early response from Destiny 2 players.

A pessimistic player started a thread on the Destiny 2 subreddit, saying he felt “uncomfortable” about the commendation system, but didn’t care if it was. This was a preference function and no vote was required.

There is a mix of agree and disagree in the responses. One says that Bungie is in “Never Land” because the community believes it will be of great help to new Guardians, and also highlights potential issues that could arise if they offer rewards. However, others think compliments are a good thing.

“I would love to find a way in-game to show my gratitude to the Sherpas who helped me get started with endgame content and find my clan,” said a Guardian.

There were stronger opinions on Twitter. “I don’t see a possible future where the praise system works well,” Says ‘Sc Rub’.

On the other side of the coin, ‘Atelier des Saintes’ glad the feature is coming to Lightfall. “I really like the first look at the Destiny Commendation System. I love it on FFXIV, and this version of Destiny looks great.

Recently, members of the Apex Legends community have been asking for a similar system, so there’s definitely something in the air. Giving players ways to congratulate each other without adding the possibility of upset or harassment can only be good in the long run.

“It will make the game much more social and really make Destiny players feel like they are part of one team,” said Alison Slavin, Head of Production at Bungie.

Whatever you do with the Destiny 2 Commendation system, one thing is clear: Lightfall is going to shake up the game in many ways. And with all the toxicity reigning in online communities, a bit of positivity can only be a good thing.
