These are the highlights of Gamescom 2022: Opening Night Live Recap

He starred in Geoff Keighley’s show Dead Island 2, New Tales from the Borderlands, or Sonic Frontiers.

I feel bad for repeating it, but I’m looking at the latest events organized by the famous journalist. Geoff Keighleyand the synopsis is pretty much the same: an extravagantly long show that leaves us with some exciting flashes, but mentally exhausting you with the constant bombardment of trailers, footage, and world premieres that in almost no scenario will go beyond the third-episode announcement. that’s on your mind.

True to its style, the organizer of Summer Game Fest is betting on the quantity, not the quality, of the content presented at Opening Night Live, which serves as a preview of Gamescom 2022, the biggest video game event in Europe. These years of absence due to the pandemic are finally opening the doors to the public. But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad show because as I told you, there were once again a lot of good announcements to get excited about. There’s also a lot of cinematic and little gameplay, but that’s another problem that happens every year and it doesn’t look like it’s going to change in the near future.

Dead Island 2

ONL bets on the quantity, not the quality, of the content offeredGamescom 2022 kicks off with the unexpected presence of Everywhere, the veteran’s ambitious new sandbox. Leslie BenziesThe former producer of the GTA series has made it very clear that they will do everything with this open world action game, which consists of multi-game experiences in which players from all over the world can participate in MMO style. After that, we came across another bombshell, like the -finally- presentation of the new open-world RPG, Dune: Awakening. co-author of Conan Exiles They started talking at the end of 2019. The problem is that the announcement was limited to one cinema, so we still don’t know much about this project.

Leaks at Gamescom 2022

In recent years, leaks have spoiled some of the most unexpected announcements in the video game industry, and this time – among others – gear box With New Tales from the Borderlands narrated from Borderlands, which is also seen in the video, he explores all the details of this adventure, its abundant visuals and even the release date. The game looks great, Meanwhile. Another of the leaks, or rather the overlooked ones, was Sonic Frontiers, which presented a trailer that left an even better taste in the mouth and also determined the release date.

There’s no denying that Opening Night Live is full of announcements. the speed of the event is too high. With videos and trailers popping up endlessly, there was hardly any time to breathe. Among them are the new videos of Howarts Legacy or Return to Monkey Island, or the dreaded The Callisto Protocol that doesn’t miss any of those events. Gotham Knights, which was seen in extensive gameplay just a few days ago, also did not want to miss the party. The problem, at least for me, is that there are so many trailers, some of them only a few seconds, others that are purely CGI and no gameplay, so I’m finally sick of seeing this festival of stickers and explosions.

There is bitter examples. They give you long teeth with an RPG created by veterans after Fallout New Vegas or Skyrim, the trailer begins… and in just a few seconds it ends with no gameplay and no detail. They came back again with a shooter from DICE veterans, played the video… and it was over in three seconds. Why fill the show with such ads when you know it’s unnecessarily prolonging the show’s duration? Of course showing up at an event with these features gives you tremendous visibility, but there are games that already seem to subscribe to these shows and you’ve seen them so much that they don’t generate the slightest interest. Or others who say nothing. And it’s mentally exhausting, at least.

I was very happy to finally see a nice trailer for The Outlast Trials, which brings the survival horror experience into the field of cooperative games, and of course, I was very happy to rediscover Dead Island 2 with a cinematic and gameplay trailer. But my final feeling about Geoff Keighley’s latest show is that, far from learning from mistakes, it’s dwelling on them. Even thinking about what awaits us at The Game Awards 2022, which has a history, scares me. Until that day comes, here is a list of some of the highlights of the Gamescom 2022 event.
