The Saints Row open-world action series has undergone significant evolution over the years of its existence. More or less a simple plagiarism of GTA turned into its own name with an emphasis on gang building and a certain amount of stupidity. It gradually grew into an even crazier third installment, with no shortage of satire, gags, and sheer madness that the Rockstar developers could only dream of. Then came the fourth volume, which introduced aliens and superpowers, and ended with a separate de facto add-on Gat out of Hell, literally sending us to hell.
But one of the main reasons why the developers at Deep Silver Volition decided to reboot this age-old series is precisely because she’s already gone too crazy. Too absurd. And where could they go next? However, the reverse also had the disadvantage that everything had to be restarted. Fan-favorite characters are gone, the towns of Stillwater and Steelport are gone, and of course the Saint gang doesn’t exist at the start of the game. And while I’m sure many fans of the original games will find it hard to swallow the pill, the new Saints Row is here – and guess what. She is really good.
I will say right away that you should not expect anything from the new Saints Row. He probably won’t knock anyone off their chair, and his shortcomings are quite obvious; But what makes this third-person action game stand out is simply that it’s fun. To be honest, it’s pretty stupid fun in every way. any depth or message is hard to findbut it’s fun. And I think that’s the main thing.
However, I must start with a story. From the first trailers and previews, like many other people, I myself was not sure about the new main characters. In addition to you, someone simply known as The Boss, there are your longtime friends and roommates Eli, Kevin and Nina. However, I confess, I surprisingly quickly got used to them. While I would appreciate it if the ending had a little more space and character development, it was a company of slightly stupid but ambitious friends whose friendship and behavior I simply trusted. The dynamic between the two is at the heart of the whole story, and while it very quickly turns into the run-of-the-mill arcade you’d expect, at heart it’s still the story of a group of friends who are tired of listening to others and wanting to be their own boss. And the fact that it’s often presented in a humorous fashion in classic Saints Row form is a big plus.
But of course it won’t be that easy. Forming a gang of Saints will come with several challenges – whether it’s finding land for a base, securing funds for other members, or fighting off the police and other gangs, who currently control parts of the city of Santo Ileso. And it is at this moment that the game mechanics and the events of the story intertwine very beautifully, which, in fact, is the reason that this works so well.
In a few hours, you will be able to create businesses throughout the city. There are about a dozen of them, and each of them serves two main purposes. On the one hand, this usually unlocks some activities that you can do in the city, or missions that you can complete once. Shady Oaks unlocks the ability to perform insurance scams that return from previous installments, such as getting hit by a car to get combos and cash rewards. Cutting Edge will offer simple quests that will unlock new materials for cosmetic mods. Eurokabator! in turn, this allows you to unlock three special items for your arsenal of weapons and vehicles. The second main purpose of such businesses is that they passively generate financial income for you. And so you can build other enterprises, the price of which rises quite rapidly; so that they can use the money to upgrade weapons and modify cars, for example.
