Quake Champions Quietly Leaves Early Access

As for the current state of the Quake series, it’s no surprise that last year’s 1996 Enhanced edition of Part 1 is getting the most attention. But let’s not forget that the free-to-play multiplayer shooter is still in relatively modest use. Quake Champions. Her the closed beta was already available to players in April/April 2017. in the now defunct Bethesda.net launcher and a few months later, namely on August 18, 2017, the game was also released in early access on cook for a couple.

For a long time, it looked like Quake Champions would be one of those games that would stay in Steam Early Access forever. But this eternity ended after five years because Now, the project that id Software and Saber Interactive originally collaborated on is finally out of early access.. Albeit in relative silence.

If we hadn’t received an automated email from Steam yesterday informing us that we were leaving Early Access, we probably wouldn’t have noticed this change at all. The existing developers from id Software have not released any key updates in recent days, Bethesda as a publisher has not released any news, the only news is that the ability to get a Super Nailgun themed skin after logging in if you turn on Quake Champion during the current QuakeCon. But such skins are already an annual tradition.

So the question is whether the exit from early access was really planned, whether it happened directly in connection with QuakeCon, or whether the creators simply ran into some kind of limit on Steam, after which the game can no longer remain in early access. After all, 5 years plus or minus a few days seems like a very convenient time frame. It’s also possible that this change has something to do with the introduction of Quake Champions to Game Pass on PC.allowing Game Pass Ultimate users to instantly unlock all playable characters.

But what matters is how the game will be supported in the future. It should be noted that Quake Champions is not one of those games that is updated with new content from time to time.. There seems to be a minimum number of developers working on the project right now, so fans of this shooter should hope that the exit from early access does not signal its impending death knell and end of support. Such cases have already happened several times in the gaming industry.
